I created this piece back in college as my senior thesis. Some people say "why do I keep work from school in my book?" My simple answer “It still resonates. And when it doesn't I'll take it out”. So, in 2020, it’s still here on my site.
The United Negro College Fund works to raise money for African Americans to attend college. But, seemingly easy alternatives to college prevent youth from looking at college as a goal, and results in lack of attendance.
This campaign was created to reveal to young African American males that the glorification of rapping and street life gets you nowhere.
To illustrate this, we put mainstream rappers and thugs in Blackface as members of the modern day Minstrel Show – and made a complete kit to embody these stereotypes.
